Understanding the dimensions of your R cabinets and drawers

So, you've decided that the R Heavy-Duty Cabinet is the best choice for your high-density storage needs. You now just need to choose from all the dimensions and options available. The MyModel-R configurator is the easiest and quickest tool to help you with this task. It helps you create an R cabinet model in just a few clicks, and it even shows you a detailed design of what your product will look like.

Now you want to understand the dimensions logic for the cabinet and drawers. To complete the configuration of your stationary or mobile R cabinet, you must first know the exterior dimensions. After that, knowing the actual interior dimensions of your cabinet helps you to make an informed choice for the placement of drawers and/or shelves.

Exterior dimensions of R cabinets

For your R Heavy-Duty Cabinet, Rousseau offers 7 width options (18", 24", 30", 36", 48", 54" and 60"); 7 heights (24", 28", 30", 34", 38", 44" and 58"); and 4 depths (18", 21", 24" and 27"). The good news: the exterior dimensions of your R cabinets are exact dimensions, which facilitates layout choices. For example, if you choose a 36"W cabinet, your cabinet will take up exactly 36 inches of space.

Notes: Certain restrictions apply to width-depth combinations. Also, the base is not included in the listed cabinet heights. If your cabinet has a base, you must measure from the top of the base to attain the actual height.

Interior dimensions of R cabinets

To find the space available for installing drawers inside your cabinets, the formula is simple: the height minus 4". For example, if your cabinet is 34"H, you have 30" available for installing drawers. Once you know this measurement, you can determine the height of the drawers you need.

Exterior dimensions of drawers

You then choose the drawer heights based on what you want to store. The heights available (3", 4", 5", 6", 7", 8", 9", 10", 12" and 14") refer to the height of the drawer front. When you configure your cabinet, you must use this measurement rather than the interior measurement. Note that you can install drawers of whatever height you want as long as they fit in the space available inside the cabinet housing. When you have determined the optimal configuration for your cabinet, you just need to accessorize it. There are several options once again.
